Capitol Christian Music Group

A Detroit native, with lengthy roots in the music industry, it would only be a few short years into his life that his musical destination would be determined amidst his family of musicians. As early as the age of 11, Tim would accept his calling and spend the next years of his life developing his voice into the rich and dynamic sound that audiences are moved by today.

His voice was cultivated with the support of his father, renowned jazz guitarist, Tim Bowman and aunt, famed gospel singer, Vickie Winans. After recording such singles as “Shake Yourself Loose” (remix) and featured on Winans’ hit song, “How I Got Over,” at the age of 17, they would collectively guide him through the next stages of his musical career. Tim would find himself ministering through music, touring with Winans, and being vocally coached by his father during these early years.

After hooking up with cousin and new manager, Marvin Winans Jr. it wasn’t long before Marvin would introduce Tim’s exceptional vocal ability and universal appeal to legendary music producer, Rodney Jerkins. Jerkins heard one song and immediately began the process of signing Tim as the first artist to his new Universal distributed label, Lifestyle Music Group. Now with Jerkins at the helm, his second album is filled with the world-class music production that his good news infused lyrics and incredible vocal gifting deserve. It is this unique combination of music and message that carved out a place for Tim within both the Mainstream and Christian music genres. The album, which includes the first single, “I’m Good” a feel-good song originally written for Mary J. Blige garnered Tim his first Grammy nomination for Best Gospel Album. Tim has shared the stage with some of the world’s most renowned gospel artists and numerous industry awards and successes. But none of these accomplishments could compare to his constant yearning to grow in his relationship with God. He knew that although His plan for his life may have started with music, it would not end there, and that He wanted to use every area of his life for His glory. This understanding was the motivation to make a deliberated decision to live a life that God could display to the world as an example, including his decision to remain a virgin until he married.

In October of 2015, Tim married Brelyn, the woman that God purposed just for him, who also made the same promise of purity to God long before they met. During their wedding reception, she presented her dad with a framed certificate from her doctor that she was still a virgin. What was meant to be a declaration and a testimony of faith, love and honor to God and her parents, was reposted by several national gossip blogs with a caption suggesting her “Certificate of Purity” had “gone too far.” The thousands of comments that followed, both positive and negative, stirred a furry of emotions regarding the subject of virginity and purity in today’s modern day society, and they were thrust onto the international spotlight while telling the world their story on “Good Morning America.” This experience confirmed his understanding of God’s greater purpose for his life, and they decided to turn what was meant for their harm and use it to share their passion for holiness to God, while continuing to show the world how God honors such a life.

In addition to being a husband and father to my four amazing children, Tim serves as the Worship Pastor of Faith City Central with three campuses in the Washington, DC – Baltimore, MD areas. His gift continues to make room for his unstoppable talent, including starring as BeBe Winans in Lifetime TV’s biopic, “Whitney Houston,” which was directed by Angela Bassett.

During the pandemic, Tim and his team, Faith City Music, blazed the trail of excellence in bringing the musical worship experience into the lives and homes of believers all around the globe, which was recognized and celebrated by their induction into the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Later in 2022, they also released their chart-topping debut project, “Welcome to Faith City” which earned them a Stellar Award nomination for Duo/Chorus Group of the Year and a tour to sold-out cities across the nation. In preparation of his call to the office of Senior Pastor, Tim is currently completing his Master of Divinity at the Virginia Union University School of Theology. More importantly, he is excited and committed to continue to be a student of the Word of God, which will enable him to fulfill his most important purpose – to make Jesus famous!
